Fire-resistant windows & doors
Glass that breaks from heat lets embers straight inside. We replace vulnerable windows and doors and seal the gaps around them.
Single-pane glass can break from radiant heat long before flames reach the house, and once a window breaks, embers have an open path inside. Vinyl frames can soften and deform, and exterior doors with gaps at the threshold or weather stripping let embers collect and enter.
We replace windows with dual-pane units that include tempered glass, and we choose frame materials suited to wildfire exposure. For doors, we install solid or ignition-resistant doors with tight weather stripping and noncombustible thresholds. We integrate every opening with the surrounding siding, trim and flashing so the wall performs as one assembly.
What affects the scope
Every property is different, so we price from a site visit rather than a guess. These are the things that change the scope and cost most.
- Number, size and type of windows
- Retrofit versus full-frame replacement
- Siding and trim condition around openings
- Product lead times
- Skylights and sliding doors
How it works
- 01
Site visit
We look at the property and the specific conditions, and talk through what you want to accomplish.
- 02
Clear scope & estimate
You get a written scope that explains what we recommend, why, and what can be phased.
- 03
Build
Owner-led work, documented with photos, including anything concealed before it's covered.
- 04
Walkthrough
We review the finished work with you and leave you with the documentation.
Common questions
Why tempered glass?
Tempered glass is much more resistant to breaking from heat than standard annealed glass. California's wildfire building standards call for multi-pane glazing with at least one tempered pane in many applications.
Do I need to replace every window?
Not necessarily. We prioritize windows facing slopes, vegetation and other exposure, and the ones in the worst condition.
Do you handle garage doors?
Yes. Gaps around garage doors are a common ember entry point. We seal them and can recommend replacement when needed.
Close the openings embers use.
