What We Handle

One licensed team.
Three ways to protect a property.

The structure, the power systems, and the land around them. Hire us for one, or let us coordinate all three so nothing falls between trades.

Home Hardening

Fire hardening for the structure itself: the vents, eaves, siding, windows, doors and decks embers exploit first.

  • Ember-resistant vents (Vulcan)
  • Eaves, soffits & fire-resistant siding
  • Dual-pane tempered windows & doors
  • Fire-resistant decks

Electrical & Backup Power

Licensed C-10 electrical work, booked on its own or with other projects: panels, generators, batteries and EV charging.

  • Panel & service upgrades, smart panels
  • Generac standby generators
  • Tesla Powerwall & FranklinWH batteries
  • EV chargers

Defensible Space

The property around the home: Zone Zero, vegetation clearing, grading, drainage and the site work that supports it.

  • Zone Zero (0–5 ft) hardscaping
  • Defensible space clearing
  • Grading & drainage
  • Trenching, conduit & equipment pads

Free Home Readiness Assessment

We walk the property, identify fire hardening priorities, exterior vulnerabilities, and electrical concerns, and give you a clear direction on what should happen first. Free, owner-led, about sixty minutes, no pressure.

Defensible Space

The property
protects the house.

Zone Zero, vegetation clearing, grading and drainage, coordinated with the work on the house. The same site experience supports trenching, conduit and equipment pads for generators and batteries, on homes, properties and facilities.

Why Margrave

Three principles backed by scope, not slogans.

We are not a one-trade installer trying to stretch into bigger work, and we are not a generalist contractor listing every service under the sun. We are licensed general and electrical contractors who have deliberately focused on fire preparedness, electrical and backup power, and the property around the home.

  • CA-licensed B General Contractor
  • CA-licensed C-10 Electrical Contractor
  • Tesla Powerwall Certified Installer
  • FranklinWH Certified Installer
  • Generac Certified
  • WUI-rated assembly experience
01

Full Scope

We do not stop at one upgrade. We look at the vulnerable exterior assemblies, the area around the home, the transitions that spread ignition, and the systems that need to keep running when conditions get serious.

02

Real Builders

This is builder-level work, not surface-level installation. Our background is in actual construction, electrical systems, project execution, and coordinating multi-layer scopes the right way.

03

Intentional Focus

We are capable of doing far more than what you see here. We have chosen to focus on fire preparedness, electrical and backup power, and the property around the home because this is what our region needs and where our combined experience creates the most value.

Our Story

Born and built in the
North State.

Margrave Construction is owned by Michael Margrave and John Laboy, both born and raised in the Redding area. Our family has built in the North State for more than 30 years, and that multi-generational building background is the foundation of how we work today.

From local exterior and structural projects to high-end spec home construction on the Southern California coast, our experience has always come back to the same thing: build it right, stay close to the work, and take pride in the result.

Today we focus that experience on fire hardening, electrical and backup power, and defensible space. Combined B General and C-10 Electrical licenses, with work that stays owner-led from the first walkthrough to the last.

Owner-led. Local. Built to last.

Our Process

Practical.
Documented.
Owner-led.

We keep the process straightforward. We look at the property, identify what matters, build the right scope, and walk you through the work clearly before anything moves forward.

  1. 01

    Assessment

We walk the property, look at the structure, the surrounding conditions, and the systems involved, and identify what needs attention.

  2. 02

    Scope & Estimate

We build a practical scope based on risk, priorities, budget, and how the work should actually be sequenced.

  3. 03

    Build

We complete the work with a contractor's mindset. Coordinated, documented, and built to hold up.

  4. 04

    Walkthrough

We close the loop, review the finished work, and make sure you understand what was done and why.

Homeowner Trust

Work That Holds Up.
People Who Show Up.

Most of our work has come from referrals, repeat customers, and local relationships. We take that seriously: clear communication, owner-led work, and finished projects we are proud to stand behind.

Michael rebuilt my large deck at my home that was a complete tear down. He did a fantastic job and I would recommend him for any project I have in the future!

Michael and his team are top notch! I've used them many years in my capacity as a realtor and a property manager for clients who are in need of both small and large jobs. They are competitively priced, have great communication, and always perform excellent work. I'm so grateful I can always rely on them to help me and my clients with construction needs!

I've used Margrave Construction on multiple jobs for clients and they've always been great to work with. They recently handled a service panel upgrade and, like usual, everything went smooth. They communicated well, showed up when they said they would, and got the job done right. As a real estate agent, it's a huge help having contractors I can trust and refer with confidence. I'll definitely keep using them.

You do not need every detail figured out before reaching out. Some homeowners call because of an insurance issue. Others are preparing before fire season, need a panel upgrade, or want backup power before the next outage. We can help sort through the scope.
