Battery backup: Tesla Powerwall & FranklinWH
A home battery takes over automatically and silently when the power goes out. We are certified installers for both Tesla Powerwall and FranklinWH, so we can recommend the system that fits your home.
Battery systems store energy and switch your home to backup power in an outage without noise, fuel or exhaust. Paired with solar, they can recharge during the day and carry you through multi-day events. Without solar, they still cover shorter outages and essential loads.
We are certified to install both Tesla Powerwall and FranklinWH. We start with what you want to keep running and how long, then size the system, plan the location, check whether your panel or service needs work first, and handle the permit, utility interconnection where required, and commissioning.
What affects the scope
Every property is different, so we price from a site visit rather than a guess. These are the things that change the scope and cost most.
- Which loads you want backed up and for how long
- Existing solar and inverter type
- Panel capacity and location
- Indoor versus outdoor installation
- Utility interconnection requirements (PG&E or Redding Electric Utility)
Tesla Powerwall or FranklinWH?
Both are strong systems with different strengths in configuration, expansion and integration with existing equipment. Because we install both, our recommendation is based on your home, your solar situation and your backup goals rather than on a single product line.
- Tesla Powerwall: integrated system with app monitoring, widely used with new and existing solar.
- FranklinWH: flexible whole-home system with smart load management and generator integration options.
Common questions
How long will a battery run my house?
It depends on battery capacity, which loads are connected and how much energy you use. We size systems around your priorities and explain what to expect realistically, rather than promising a fixed runtime.
Do I need solar to get a battery?
No. A battery can charge from the grid and provide backup during outages. Solar lets it recharge during extended outages.
Can you add a battery to my existing solar?
Often, yes. Compatibility depends on your inverter and system. We review your existing equipment before recommending a configuration.
Can a battery and a generator work together?
Some systems support generator integration. It can be a good combination for rural properties with long outages. We will tell you whether it makes sense for yours.
Standby Generators
A standby generator starts on its own when the grid goes down and keeps running as long as it has fuel.
